About susan schrott

Susan Schrott began her artistic career as a young girl studying voice and drama at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, as well as dance at the School of American Ballet and Martha Graham. In her early twenties, she moved into the realm of musical theatre, appearing nationally and working extensively for the Jewish Repertory Theatre in NYC, originating many roles, which are still reprised today. 

In her late 20’s, she attended graduate school earning her Masters degree in social work and became a licensed clinical social worker. Weaving on a four-harness floor loom and needlework became the outlet for Susan’s creative energy. Eventually she found the perfect medium in textiles after taking a quilting class while pregnant with her second daughter.  

As a fiber and mixed media artist, she synthesizes her life experiences into deeply personal, yet uplifting images. Strong, joyful women appear in the majority of the work side by side with  a full body of work that with a focus on the Tree Of Life. Her exquisite hand dyed fabrics, intense threadwork, embellishments such as crystals and beads, add visual texture and depth.  Her purpose “is to move people and inspire a sense of hopefulness that is unexpressed within themselves, igniting the inner wisdom they possess, to love and inspire others.”

She is the author and illustrator of Rise with Radiance, Drawings and Inspirational Words to Light Your Path Every Day of the Year, and Create with Radiance, A Guided Coloring Book and Journal for Creative Self Expression. Her work is frequently included in thematically driven exhibitions and public-facing projects.  She is a professional artist member of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), National Association of Women in the Arts, ARTSI Shelter Island, NY, East End Arts and Humanities Council, Shelter Island Arts Center (Founding Board Member), The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP) and Actor’s Equity.

Susan is a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor and Certified Yoga Teacher.
