Lots of time in cars and buses going to and from sunshine to work, and so I did a little knitting. I used a beautiful mohair and wool combination to make a fake mobius. When I finished it, it was too big, so I visited the wonderful gals at Katonah Yarn Company and talked with them about threading a ribbon through it to tie it tighter and to see if they thought that might work. Well Jane Lee couldn’t have been nicer and was so enthusiastic. She ran to the back of the store and came back out with a beautiful silk ribbon, wide eyed needle and patiently threaded it through the shawl while I stood there like a kid in a candy store. And let me tell you, if you are into knitting this is the place to run to. Jennifer, Jane Lee and all the women there are so helpful and the yarns just ooze gorgeousness. Well, after the threaded silk was in place, it fit just fine. Perfect for the Fall. Viola!

I finally gave my friend Elizabeth Rosenberg her birthday present so now I can share it here. She adores zebras. I had found two beautiful zebra batiks several years ago and was holding on to them not sure quite what to do with them. These past few months I have been working with my own hand dyed fabrics which I then paint and stamp with my original stamps and I decided to do some work with black and white fabric, paints and stamps. Bingo!!! Ding ding ding…light bulb moment…I created some black and white swirly fabrics which I then free motion cut and pieced to create these two ” Dancing Zebra” #1 and #2 pieces. I created the first piece for Elizabeth and so loved it that I used the second batik to make a similar one for myself. Fool that I am, I gave Elizabeth hers without photographing it first…but I do have mine here at home and they really do look very, very much alike, so here is Dancing Zebra #2. I will see if Elizabeth can take a photo of hers as well.

Techniques used: Hand painted cotton fabrics, stamped with original stamps, pieced, metallic thread, Batik center, tulle, free motion quilted; 11″ x 7″.

I am happy to share that I sold Cardinal in Winter last week. I created Cardinal in Winter on a cold snowy day when I was looking at the birds at our bird feeder. A cardinal stopped by for a nibble and it’s red feathers look exquisite against the white snow. I ran and got my camera and photographed the bird at the birder. I loved the image, photo transferred the image, and created this piece. I am thrilled that the buyer of the piece purchased it as a gift for a friend.

Jane and Natalya did a terrific job hanging the exhibition. I especially loved how the artwork is grouped together by tone and color on different walls. It was great seeing so many of us gathered all together with friends, family and guests. Here are few glimpses into the day.

Wide awake at 4:13 am this morning? Yup! Every once in a while, I just wake up ready to work. The only thing is, it is still the middle of the night. Perfect time to brew some hot coffee and enjoy the quiet of my studio. Yesterday I took a break from making 15 sleeves for 15 finished new pieces I have made over several months. I can no longer avoid this dreaded task, so I spent a relentlessly rainy day, cozied up in my studio making the sleeves. Right now, they are all pinned down and resting on my older daughters bed.

Sleeves Galore

By the 15th sleeve, I had enough. I was looking through some photographs I had taken of birds at our bird feeder and found this beautiful Cardinal I captured this winter.

I immediately new this would be a fun change of pace and printed the photo onto cotton fabric and got to work. I guess this piece was still on my mind when I went to bed last night, because at 4:13 this morning, with hot coffee in hand, I headed into my studio and continued working on Red Cardinal in Winter. I have the piece quilted and am preparing to fill the center of each flower on the border, with a single gold bead.

Red Cardinal in Winter

Ah, the sun is up…need a coffee refill.

I have been so busy working that I have not had a split second to update my blog. I have lots of new works in progress, exhibition openings and upcoming openings, blooming orchids, and completed works as well. I often feel guilty writing on my blog when I can be using the same time to work in my studio. But, I also appreciate reading other folks blogs and like to use my own to help me keep track of my own creative journey. If anyone happens to enjoy reading it, then for that I am grateful.

Well, it has been nearly three days since I started writing. But I am determined to catch up, albeit, it may come in in dribs and drabs. Here we go:

Last night was a deeply moving and bittersweet event that brought me back to a time in my life when I worked extensively in musical theatre. Richard Enquist, a truly talented lyricist and dear man I worked with on several musicals, succumbed to cancer and passed away. He knew that he was failing and decided to put together a retrospective of some of his works. Unfortunately he passed away last thursday. However, the concert was held in his honor and the concert hall at Lincoln Center Library was overflowing, so much so, that chairs were added to the stage and folks had to be turned away. I reunited with dear friends from years gone by who were in the original cast of several of the musicals I was cast in at the Jewish Repertory Theatre in NYC. Of course, the critically acclaimed Kuni Leml was the highlight of my night’s music. I was honored to be asked to sing my solo and a touching duet ( which I originated over 25 years ago) with the beautiful and talented Barbara Mcculloh. She too was in the original cast. It was both joyful and bittersweet. Richard’s wife Jane Brody, spoke so eloquently about Richard. Here are just a few photos of those of us together from the original cast of Kuni Leml.

I woke today (Saturday March 28th) and completed my SAQA 12 inch square for the Benefit Auction. My Auction piece is part of my new series “Enticement” and it is “Enticement #5: Green Eyed Beauty. The piece is a 12 inch square. I used a photo transfer onto 100% cotton of my own original drawing. I used my own hand dyed fabrics, curved piecing and free motion quilting. Here is both a full image and detail. Of course, please visit the

After I photographed and sent the images off for the SAQA website, My husband and I headed out to the opening of the Katonah Artist Associations Exhibition at Northern Westchester Hospital. Everyone’s work is beautifully lit and hung, and it was a great opportunity to meet some of the other artists. Here is a photo my husband Jonathan took of me between two of my pieces “Woman in the Reeds” and “Woman With 15 Flowers”. There is also a long shot.

Onward yes! Last weekend I attended the opening of the Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan, Ct where my piece Adagio was included in the Katonah Museum Artists Association’s Juried Exhibition. It was thrilling to have my artwork included among more traditional art forms. This is often a discussion on the SAQA website and in emails. The gallery is beautiful and the turnout was exceptional. The event was made even more special when my dear friend and artist Benedicte Caneill showed up to see the exhibition and show her support. It really made the entire event that much more special.
