About and Resumé

Susan Schrott began her artistic career as a young girl studying voice, drama and dance at the School of American Ballet and Martha Graham.  In her early twenties she moved into the realm of musical theatre, appearing nationally and working extensively for the Jewish Repertory Theatre in NYC, originating many roles which are still reprised today.

In her late twenties she attended graduate school, earned her Masters degree in social work and became a licensed psychotherapist. Weaving and needlework became the outlet for Susan’s creative energy.Textiles became her medium of choice after taking a quilting class while pregnant with her second daughter.

As a fiber artist she synthesizes her life experiences into deeply personal yet uplifting images. The majority of her artwork features strong, joyful women. Exquisite hand dyed fabrics, intense threadwork, embellishments such as crystals and beads add visual texture and depth. One collector noted that Susan’s work celebrates “the fullness and richness of women.”

Her artwork has gained critical attention from the art quilt world and has been featured in New York galleries. Her artwork has received numerous awards, including a First Place and a Judge's Choice award. She has exhibited nationally. A solo exhibition is scheduled for 2011. Her artwork appears in permanent installations and private collections around the world and has been selected for publication in notable magazines. She is a professional member of the Pen and Brush in New York City, the Katonah Museum Artists Association, Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), the American Quilter's Society (AQS) and the Northern Star Quilters Guild. Currently, she is the Regional Co-Representative for Studio Art Quilts Associations (SAQA). Susan is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and a Certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor.
